2014 was a year of many accomplishments

2014 was quite the year for this 55 year old!  As I reflect back, I am truly humbled that the good Lord has given me the ability to do all this.  Especially at my age!  I don't plan on slowing down any in 2015 but for now I wanted to celebrate my accomplishments for 2014.  Here they are:

First full marathon (26.2 miles).
First Olympic distance Triathlon (Swim 1500 meters, 24.8 miles bike, 10K run).
First Century (100 miles) bike ride.
Ran at least a half marathon race in 6 different states.
Earned my first "Beat Your Age" award in the Bolder Boulder. 
Longest open water swim ever (1.2 miles).
Completed a Sprint Triathlon.
Completed a Metric Century ride (62 miles).
3 Half Marathon Personal Records (PR)
Ran over 1000 miles.
Biked over 1248 miles.


Monthly details:

January:  Earned my 26.2 sticker by running my first full marathon in Maui!  Hawaii was state number 5.

February: PR'd in the Daytona Beach Half Marathon!  Florida was state number 6.

 May: PR'd in the Fargo Half Marathon!  North Dakota was state number 7.
          Beat my age as I ran in my 16th Bolder Boulder.

 June: Casper Half Marathon.  Wyoming was state number 8.

 July:  TriBoulder Sprint Triathlon.
          Cancer Sucks 1.2 mile swim.
          TriRock Olympic distance Triathlon.

 August:  Tour de Cure Century ride.

September: Platte Valley Companies Monument Half Marathon.  Nebraska was state number 9.

October:  Tour of the Moon metric century (62 miles) ride.

November:  PR'd in the Indianapolis Monumental Half Marathon!  Indiana was state number 10.

24 July 2016 - TriBoulder Olympic distance Triathlon

TriBoulder was a race of many different emotions for me. I was nervous because I had only done this distance (swim 1500 meters, bike 27 miles, run 6.2 miles) once before. I was excited because I had high expectations after winning at Boulder Sunrise.  I was anxious about the swim especially after I saw how poorly the course was marked. I was excited about the bike ride, especially the back part starting on Nelson Rd since it included some nice downhill stretches. I was nervous about running 6 miles after the bike ride. The distance on the run was not a concern, it was the fact I had never run the back part of the reservoir and it looked hilly.   My goals for this race were to swim in about 34 minutes, transition under 2 minutes, average 20 mph on the bike, and complete the run in 54-56 minutes.  Overall I wanted to finish in under 3 hours. 2018 totals and 2019 goals

Another new year is upon us!   2018 zoomed by and now it's time for me to reflect on the past year and set goals for 2019.  Most of last year I was coached by Bob Seebohar.  I learned a bunch from Bob and he definitely helped get me into the best shape I have been in in quite some time.  I didn't get any faster in any discipline but did stay injury free and pretty much completed all my goals for the year.  Overall I swam/bike/ran a total of 2,660 miles.  This is a small increase over last year. I started the year off in January with the Houston Half Marathon in Houston Texas.  This event was especially fun because Julie, and and my stepson Tyler and his girlfriend Abbey were there to support me.  It was fun to see them along the course and at the finish.   In April, I bought a power meter for my bike and learned how to train with power and all about the FTP test.  I still don't...

March 22, 2015 - Mercer Island Half Marathon

Mercer Island Half Marathon. 22 March 2015 I was nervous about this race. Somehow I hurt my foot on March 13th, just 9 days before the race.  I was out for an easy 5 miler and about 4 miles in, the pain was so bad walking was necessary. Walking was slow and painful.  I rested the foot for a couple days and the pain subsided somewhat. It may sound strange but I really couldn't find the exact origin of the pain. I knew my foot hurt but why?  A visit to the Dr and X-rays showed nothing definitive. The Doc called it an overuse injury (in other words I dunno why it hurts you) and said try it out and let pain be my guide. With that advice, I knew the state of Washington medal would we earned but hopefully not at a prolonged injury cost. Julie and I flew into Seattle on Friday.
